SIGNAL - Interactive and public social sculpture
SIGNAL stands for sloboda (freedom) – interakcija (interaction) – grad (city) – narativ (narrative) – arhitektura (architecture) – letargija (lethargy).
SIGNAL is a process and the space of citizens’ re-appropriation of the existing bob and sledge infrastructures with all post-war residuals: concrete tracks, walls of the changing rooms, foundations and walls of press houses, sitting area at the top of the mountain. It is also a proposal to gradually create new relations between the Mountain Trebević and Sarajevo. Mountain today and its relation to the city, is very complex territory, represented by real and imagined elements of nature, citizens’ memories, Olympic past, recent war, post-war environmental risk caused by mines and real-estate projects, destroyed infrastructures used as perfect scenography for graffiti art and extreme sports, film scenarios, political campaigns, dual administration, criminal encounters and so on.
SIGNAL aim is to take bob and sledge track and translate its complex existence into the five socio-spatial scales of the project:
1_ S – sloboda (freedom) stands for the open processes of use of the bob and sledge track
2_ I – interakcija (interaction) stands for citizens’ interaction with the bob and sledge track
3_ G – grad (city) stands for the relation between Sarajevo and Trebević
4_N – narativ (narrative) stands for the learning and creation of urban narratives
5_A – arhitektura stands for the design interventions proposed by SIGNAL
6_L – letargija (lethargy) stands for the state of socio-spatial slowness and inactivity
This project was created in cooperation with Armina Pilav and Daan Zandbergen.
