SIGNAL is an interactive public sculpture that explores how abandoned infrastructure can become a space for collective use, memory and imagination.
Set on Mount Trebević in Sarajevo, the project engages the former Olympic bob and sled track and its post-war remnants, including concrete structures, ruined buildings, graffiti, informal uses and traces of conflict. Situated between the city and the mountain, the site embodies multiple and often conflicting narratives shaped by the Olympic past, the Bosnian War, environmental risks, political divisions and everyday urban life.
The project investigates how citizens can reappropriate these existing structures and transform them into a shared social and cultural landscape. Through a series of spatial interventions, activities and open-ended processes, SIGNAL proposes new relationships between Sarajevo and Trebević, while creating space for interaction, learning, storytelling and collective participation.
Structured around the themes of freedom, interaction, city, narrative, architecture and lethargy, the project explores how public space can emerge from existing conditions rather than through large-scale redevelopment. The outcome takes the form of an interactive public sculpture and a framework for the gradual reactivation of a site shaped by both memory and transformation.
