Collecting the City x ONGEKEND.ZEEDIJK

ONGEKEND.ZEEDIJK: Collecting the City #4 is a co-curated exhibition that addresses questions of belonging, ownership, and representation in Amsterdam’s historic city centre.
Through oral histories, artistic interventions, archival material, photography, and community narratives, the exhibition brings together the diverse voices and experiences that shape the Zeedijk. Building on the project ONGEKEND.ZEEDIJK, the exhibition draws from more than one hundred conversations with residents, entrepreneurs, creatives, and local stakeholders to explore the social and cultural dynamics of one of Amsterdam’s oldest streets.
The work examines how urban identities are constructed, preserved, and challenged within a rapidly transforming city centre. It investigates whose stories become part of the public narrative and how museums can create space for local knowledge, collective memory, and perspectives that are often overlooked in conventional representations of the city.
The outcome takes the form of a co-curated exhibition presented at the Amsterdam Museum as part of the Collecting the City series. Developed in collaboration with the museum, the project translated a long-term participatory research process into an exhibition narrative.
